Staff Training

Accurate coding of cardiovascular procedures requires in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, procedural techniques, and several complex sets of coding rules. Each of the coder-focused training options offered by CardiologyCoder.Com develops cardiology coding mastery among attendees and provides them with the skill-set and tools needed to accurately code directly from operative and diagnostic test reports.

These interactive training opportunities are highly beneficial, cost effective, easy to schedule, and well-received by coders. Each of the available programs includes extremely pertinent and timely guidelines that help practices secure accurate compensation for services while insulating themselves from regulatory liability. The programs can be conducted at times convenient for your organization and coders can attend from dozens of locations simultaneously for the same flat rate.

Summary of Popular Topics:

  1. Visit Documentation: Attendees will learn best practice approaches to auditing and coding cardiology visits in the office and hospital.Several clarifications obtained from CMS officials will be presented that will help ensure accurate review of documentation and coding.Attendees will also receive pocket reference cards that aide in the implementation of recommended documentation and coding techniques.
  2. Peripheral Vascular Angiography & Intervention: This presentation gives coders an easy to understand summary of the most complex set of coding rules in existence.Attendees will what verbiage must be in the report prior to assigning applicable codes for each portion of the case: catheter placement, diagnostic imaging, and interventional procedures.Peripheral vascular anatomy, procedural techniques, and applicable coding rules will be presented in a logical, graphic, and easy to understand format.Case studies will be provided to show how medical documentation drives the code set that can be reported.
  3. Electrophysiology & Cardiac Rhythm Management: Not all electrophysiology studies are considered “comprehensive” as defined in the coding structure or National Correct Coding Initiative Policy Manual. This program will illustrate what documentation is needed to support a comprehensive study, how to code cases which don’t meet the applicable standards, how to document and report common add-on services, how to report ablation procedures, and how to document and code pacemaker and defibrillator surgeries. Our proprietary EP audit tool will be provided so attendees can start coding cases accurately at the conclusion of the program.
  4. Pacemaker, Defibrillator, and Heart Failure Monitoring: Effective January 1, 2009 there is no difference between device interrogations that include reprogramming or not.Similarly, it is no longer appropriate to report only two in-person and two remote monitoring services. This program provides a very thorough review of all six new service categories that apply to device management. We’ll also cover the best-practice technique to accurate and thorough charge capture.
  5. Coronary Assessment & Intervention: Echocardiography, stress testing, heart catheterization, and coronary intervention have been the financial bedrocks of cardiology for the past several decades. Many of the coding rules that apply to these services have evolved in the last few years and the recently completed Relative Value Unit (RVU) survey is a harbinger of substantial code structure changes on the horizon. This program presents the necessary documentation components for each of these services and provides an easy to understand.

Description of Web-Conference: Shortly after scheduling I will provide you a web link via e-mail that will take you to the web site where the presentation will be conducted.  As I advance the slides from my office, you will see them advance on the screen where you are facilitating the meeting; this could be on a computer screen or on an LCD projector.  You can also have physicians log into the presentation from different locations; since it is web-based the logistical challenges are eliminated.

I’ll also provide a call-in number where you’ll be connected to me via teleconference.  The call is highly interactive and attendees can ask questions at multiple points during the program.  Each program is designed to be about two hours long with an average volume of Q&A time; extensive questions may prolong this estimate.  My fee for each staff presentation is $2,000.

Web Conference availability is limited and committed on a first come, first served basis. You can purchase a training programs in our online store – we’ll contact you within a day or two to schedule the program at a time that works for you.
